Mid-Autumn Festival - the Guanghan Mooncake Store!
Spec Project, 2024
The Guanghan Mooncake Store is a celebration illustration for the Mid-Autumn Festival, where I explore a playful, modern take on traditional Chinese culture. In this piece, I imagined ancient gods from Chinese mythology visiting Guanghan Palace to purchase authentic mooncakes, handcrafted by the Moon Goddess, Chang’e, with the help of her moon bunnies.
Like all artists, I had my “this is it” moment—mine came when I sketched Yang Jian, the three-eyed Warrior God (top center guy), casually completing his purchase with a phone payment. I remember thinking, “No way… this is too cute!!!” And in that moment, I knew I had to see this illustration through to the end.
